When it's clear as MUD, in your neighbourhood. Who ya gonna call?

I explore the gaming life and times of multi-talented artist, coder and musician, Antony Crowther, quizzing him specifically on Captain Planet and the Planeteers. Because for no logical reason it fascinates me.

I saw a flash, then a sparkle from a moonstone

Choose your knight and prepare to fight! Against mudmen, troggs, ratmen, baloks, trolls, dragons ...and OMG what the hell is that?, and how am I still talking with my severed head lying submerged in a festering puddle of mud and gore? With blood-splatter, trailing guts and decapitation aplenty, Moonstone is the hack 'n' slash tournament combat game Highlander should have been.

Yellow is mellow in Days of Blunder

In Days of Thunder Tom Cruise plays an arrogant, pretty-boy rookie NASCAR driver who simply must trounce all competitors in his inaugural Daytona 500 race. He has to win because he's Tom Cruise and nobody puts Tom in the corner. Not unless they're prepared to brace themselves for the mother of all toddler tantrums, dislodge a projectile tiara from their eye socket and so on.

There's no plot, the main thing to remember is that Tom looks sultry and sophisticated in his fire suit, and everyone is overcome with lust upon first sight, even before he mosies into town on his slick Harley roadhog. It's not a total car crash; Cole Trickle's manager, Robert Duvall, delivers a fantastically energised performance, while Nicole Kidman contributes her usual captivating screen presence as she gears up for more challenging future roles.

Argonaut Software's multi-system racing game is equally as redundant and soulless as the movie on which it's based. Actually, it's barely playable owing to the abysmal, tortoise-chasing framerate and unsteerability.

Is that all you've got little one?

Dark high fantasy adventure movie, Willow (1988), starring everyone's favourite Ewok, Warwick Davis, spawned a smattering of accompanying video games of widely divergent quality for various platforms. I take a bewildered look at Mindscape's contribution to the franchise for the Amiga, Atari ST, Commodore 64, and DOS, attempting to link its core elements to those of the far more cherished source material. You may well wonder who approved the arguably broken game for release and if they kept their job in the wake. I did too.
