Can you just stop saying stupid things and free me from this lovely, cute, fragrant cheese

One of the many Monkey Island wannabes that failed to grab a piece of Lucasart's point and click pie back in the '90s is Sixth Sense Investigations. You play as a private eye detective solving supernatural mysteries for rich people. Whilst this premise has potential to be intriguing in its own right, it's the unintentionally hilarious and politically incorrect dialogue that makes the off-kilter adventure game worth playing. Attempt script translation on the cheap and this is often the result. Nonetheless, never has it been this funny on the Amiga.

Czar and away

Big Red Adventure, set in Russia during the '80s, following Gorbachev's Perestroika, Dynabyte's point and click adventure game is surprisingly non-partisan. Surely that's no bad thing unless you're a history teacher who can't cope with long words. No, it's a bit more exciting than that, partly courtesy of the lifting of political oppression at this juncture. We play as one of three unique characters who must cooperate with one another, controlled sequentially, to solve the Mother of all Russian mysteries. Residents we encounter respond differently to our stereotypical femme fatale, nerd, and boneheaded weight-lifter and they, in turn, arrive equipped with variable traits and aptitudes. Use them wisely or... it'll take you longer to beat. Thumb-screws are old news.

Teen agent, teen agent, when will you be mine?

Anyone who is vaguely interested in retro gaming and the point and click adventure genre in particular will be all too familiar with timeless classics such as Monkey Island, Indiana Jones and the Fate of the Atlantis and Simon the Sorcerer. One you may not have heard of is Teen Agent, the Polish answer to James Bond's adolescent years, courtesy of lesser-known developer, Metropolis. We play as Mark Hopper who finds himself deeply embroiled in an RGB mission to unravel the mystery of the Mega Bank's disappearing gold phenomenon. Via the usual tropes of exploration, conversation, collection of objects and their combination to produce useful tools, we must prove our mettle to the powers that be and save the future of capitalism. Horah! A mightily noble cause if ever there was one. Sarcasm aside, it ain't half bad. Why not give it a chance?
