GamesMaster, all of it, quite literally

From Butlins redcoat to island castaway, I chart the rise and demise of TVs' most successful video gaming entertainment show ever produced. Dominic Diamond's notoriously risque quips and dour delivery as memorable as the celebrity challenges, GamesMaster has gone down in history as an inexplicable anomaly never to be repeated.

Seven whole series worth of reviews, contests, golden joysticks, editorial features, and unforgettable controversy, I cover it all. Now with beautifully restored HD captures courtesy of Cyberpunk Studios.

Mind you, Series 4 IMHO was the last good series of GamesMaster. When it got to Series 5, the intros got worse, there were fewer games played by celebrities and regular gamers, the whole aspect of punishment was dropped completely, and the whole show just seemed lackluster for the final three series.

Sorry, I don't know how I missed this until now. Yes, in retrospect it's hard to argue that the quality varied a lot over the course of its run. GamesMaster's decline/winding down was amongst the longest in TV history!

I don't think it concerned me that much at the time because there were so few alternatives so I continued to lap it up. Plus it offered a few things that even YouTube (generally) can't today. Like the massive scale communal experience, celeb guests and thrill of seeing tech and games exclusively for the first time.

I'd still love to see an official HD remaster, but there's been no movement on that as far as I know. Maybe it's a tricky rights issue. A comeback is looking even less likely. Maybe it would work as a novelty one-off thing for charity.
