The pantomime must go on

Ocean's first WWF wrestling game wasn't exactly fantastic, yet merits a nostalgic, reality-blurring pass if it happens to represent your earliest experience with pixelated wrestling hijinks. A year later, lessons learnt and improvements made, with the advent of European Rampage Tour, all bets were off. It's the tag-team upgrade that should have kicked Wrestlemania into the dirt, mashing its brains to mush with a stainless steel folding chair. Instead, somehow, European Rampage manages to look inferior and be less fun to play. It's enough to make a federation of global wrestlers change their name to distance themselves from the sullied hobby.

That's not my Hulk!

If you ever foolishly assumed that the life and times of former wrestler and all-round pop-media personality, Hulk Hogan, couldn't get any more preposterous, you would have had a major shock upon witnessing Suburban Commando for the first time in 1991. In said box office flop, he stars as Shep Ramsey, a one-warrior, unstoppable interstellar army assigned to the mission of apprehending the depraved despot, General Suitor, ideally prior to any harm coming to President Hashina who is currently being held hostage.

He fails, and the president perishes. Following a toddler-type temper tantrum, Shep's space ride menagerie spirals out of control, crashlanding on planet earth. Whilst attempting to locate the crystals required to repair his ship, Shep is tracked down by Suitor and his intergalactic bounty hunters. Trapped on the alien planet 'earth', they become preoccupied with squabbling and shooting one another with laser guns, however, the real crux of the movie is the supposedly hilarious 'comedy' that arises from a culture clash between humans and whatever Shep and his pursuers are.

In Alternative Software's platform-arcade-shooter hybrid game of the same name we - shockingly enough - play as the unlikely hero of the movie, Shep Ramsey. Our ultimate goal is to doubly-defeat General Suitor in the disco seen during the movie's finale in recompense for murdering the president. We tackle him twice since mid-skirmish a transformation back to his true self transpires; a much fiercer Predator-like reptile, bolstered by the possession of superstrength. Everything occurring in between has little to do with the movie, other than replicating the vaguely generic themes of beating people up and flying a spaceship in an R-Type-esque shoot 'em up stage.
